Let me start this edition by apologizing for the unexpected hiatus. Sometimes, life gets in the way and things get put on a backburner. However, the world of fintech and regulatory/compliance doesn’t pause for anyone. In this edition, we will do a brief detour and share what was happening with yours truly over the last month, before previewing what is coming up in the next few weeks as we hurtle towards the holiday season. I promise that we will pack in a lot of goodness for you before closing things out.
Recap of the last month-plus
So I was keeping myself a bit busy - first, I ran my second ever marathon, this year in Ocean City, Maryland, and almost achieved my goal of completing it in less than 4 hours. I’ll take the 4:09 though!
Then this past week, I decided to visit Singapore for the first time and got to reconnect with several longtime friends in the local and global fintech compliance world, as well as explore the city and spend some time with family. I also window-stopped past the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the country’s well known regulator with whom I’ve indirectly crossed paths in past life, and decided to jump in and do a 10K run on my last day in town.
What’s Next
So now that all that is out of the way, what can you expect in the weeks to come? Here is a brief schedule and preview of what we have in store:
Sunday, December 8 - Our 1033 final rule deep dive. A sequel to our original coverage from last year where we looked at the proposed rule. We’ll share our thoughts and do a comparison to see what stayed, what did not, and what was newly added. (Paid Subscribers Only)
Monday, December 9 - The conclusion of our TD Bank consent order/criminal charge series.
Tuesday, December 10 - Since our last publication, there was an election! One month later, a preview of what we can expect from a fintech regulatory compliance perspective under the new administration.
Sunday, December 15 - Deep diving into a pair of reports/publications coming from across the pond - one on the ECB’s digital euro progress report, and the other from the UK where the regulatory bodies have recently published their own third party risk management guidelines, of a sort (Paid Subscribers Only).
Monday, December 16 - The CFPB recently published some new final rules around payment apps, and we’ll deep dive to see what they mean and who is really impacted (Apple, Google, others?).
Tuesday, December 17 - Just a few days ago, the Ugandan central bank was hacked and $17 million was apparently stolen. By this point, more should become clear and we’ll analyze whether this has implications for other central banks globally from a security perspective.
In addition to the above, paid subscribers will be getting a long-overdue refresh of our regulatory database, with plenty of new consent orders, proposed regulations and more. And we’ll do another year-end virtual meetup exclusively for you as well. Stay tuned for details on that coming soon.

We hope the above upcoming schedule makes up for the hiatus, and I can’t say it enough - I appreciate all of your loyal readership and subscription (for those who were generous enough to join as paid subscribers). We promise to continue to make it worth your time. Thanks again!
